Cai San Canal passes through An Giang Province, Can Tho City and Kien Giang Province with a total length of about 58km. In particular, Cai San Canal passing through Can Tho City has recently experienced many landslides on the canal banks, affecting travel, daily life and threatening the lives of people.
In Vinh Trinh commune, Vinh Thanh district alone, the canal bank landslide has a total length of over 5km, including many particularly dangerous landslides.
The city is actively speeding up the construction progress to soon complete the emergency embankment project to prevent landslides on Cai San canal (North bank of Cai San canal, the section bordering An Giang province to Duong Xuong canal), in Vinh Trinh commune, Vinh Thanh district. This is the expectation of local people over the past time.
Ms. Ta Thuy Quynh (Vinh Thanh district) excitedly said: “I and the people here are very happy when the embankment project to prevent landslides is implemented. We hope the embankment will be completed soon to help people's travel, business and daily activities become safer and more convenient.”
This emergency anti-erosion embankment project has a total cost of about 100 billion VND, started construction on October 31, 2024, with the Can Tho City Irrigation Department as the investor. The project has a total length of 950m, including a solid embankment, railings, walkways and roads along the embankment; expected to be completed and put into use after 12 months.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Nam - Chairman of Vinh Trinh Commune People's Committee (Vinh Thanh District, Can Tho City), this project not only helps prevent landslides but also creates general beauty, contributing to completing the criteria for an advanced new rural commune.
Recently, Vinh Thanh district has coordinated with the city's functional departments to focus on building and reinforcing landslide prevention works in the area.
Previously, the emergency embankment project to prevent landslides on Cai San canal (in Vinh Lan hamlet, Vinh Trinh commune, Vinh Thanh district) was completed and put into use on the occasion of National Day, September 2. This project has a total length of over 600m, with a total investment of over 66 billion VND.
The locality also proactively organized field teams to conduct a review of areas at high risk of landslides, which could endanger the lives and property of people on rivers, canals and ditches in the district; thereby promptly notifying and warning people to proactively evacuate to safe places.

Faced with the serious situation of landslides, the People's Committee of Vinh Thanh district also proposed that the city continue to invest in building embankments to prevent landslides on Cai San canal, the long section adjacent to Kien Giang province, to ensure the safety of people's lives in the area.
