The battles of the Saigon Special Forces were lightning fast, "appearing like ghosts and disappearing like gods", terrifying the enemy.
In particular, during the General Offensive and Uprising of the Spring of Mau Than 1968, the Special Forces fought with the spirit of "nothing is more precious than independence and freedom", creating important historical marks.
With its great contributions, the Saigon - Gia Dinh Special Forces were awarded the 16-word golden title by the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam: "Unity of one heart, unparalleled intelligence, great courage, indomitable loyalty".
At the same time, the Party and State conferred the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces on 5 units and posthumously awarded this title to 31 individuals.
Major General Pham Van Ram emphasized that the construction of the Memorial Stele at the Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs Cemetery not only aims to record the glorious milestones of the city's armed forces but also plays an important role in traditional education.
The project will contribute to raising awareness, fostering confidence and responsibility for officers and soldiers, helping them see the heroic historical value of the Special Forces.
"This is also the motivation for today's generations of soldiers to continue promoting tradition, building a comprehensively strong Ho Chi Minh City armed force, worthy of the title of a three-time Hero of the People's Armed Forces unit" - Major General Pham Van Ram affirmed.
On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh City Command coordinated with the Traditional Resistance Club of the Armed Forces - Saigon - Gia Dinh Special Forces to organize an incense offering ceremony to commemorate the martyrs of the Saigon Special Forces who sacrificed their lives in the General Offensive and Uprising of the Spring of Mau Than 1968.
The ceremony took place solemnly at house number 499/20 Cach Mang Thang Tam, Ward 13, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City - which used to be a garage serving logistics and engineering for the Saigon - Gia Dinh Special Forces.
Every year, on the 6th day of Tet, families of generations of Saigon - Gia Dinh Special Forces gather here to hold a memorial service, offer incense and flowers to commemorate the heroic martyrs.
