Recently, on March 27, the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police force of the Provincial Police promptly extinguished a fire at stalls in the Night Economic Zone, Mang Den commune (Quang Ngai province). The initial cause was determined to be welding workers causing sparks of heat to burn on objects.
The stalls here were mainly built with flammable materials such as bamboo and rattan. The fire occurred at about 11 am, a time of intense heat, causing the fire to quickly flare up and spread. In just a short time, 4 adjacent stalls and many items were completely burned down.
According to Mang Den Commune People's Committee, specific damage has not been statistically determined, but the incident has significantly affected the business and daily life of people in the area. The burned stalls mainly serve coffee, local cuisine and agricultural products, products associated with tourism development. Local authorities said that they will continue to clarify the cause, strengthen propaganda, and guide fire prevention measures in the dry season.
Previously, a serious fire occurred at the communal house of Kon Bah village, Ia Khuol commune (Gia Lai province). The fire completely burned down the communal house, a cultural and spiritually important building of the community, along with a set of gongs, sound systems and many common household items.
The characteristic of Rong houses and stilt houses is the use of traditional materials such as wood, bamboo, and thatch, roofs covered with thick and high thatch grass. When encountering dry and hot weather conditions, combined with strong winds, fire is very easy to break out and spread quickly, causing difficulties for firefighting. In the incident in Kon Bah village, in just a short time, the fire engulfed the entire construction, collapsing the structure and causing heavy damage.
Through recent fires, functional agencies of Gia Lai province warn that the risk of fire in the hot season is at a high level. People need to pay special attention to checking the electrical system, not installing temporary installations, not using overloaded electrical equipment, limiting the use of fire near flammable materials, arranging on-site fire fighting equipment and proactively responding to incidents.
For Rong houses, stilt houses, and works with unique traditional cultural values, protection needs to be further emphasized. Local authorities are recommended to strengthen inspection and fire prevention guidance, and consider installing early warning devices, and develop fire fighting plans suitable to the specific characteristics of the works. Proactive fire prevention not only helps protect property but also contributes to preserving the precious traditional cultural values of the community.
