According to the Traffic Police Department, during the 2026 Lunar New Year, the traffic volume on the Ho Chi Minh City - Van Phong expressway is forecast to increase sharply, posing many risks of traffic accidents.
In which, functional forces warned that tire bursts are identified as one of the particularly dangerous causes.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Van Phong expressway is a vital traffic axis connecting Ho Chi Minh City with tourist and marine economic centers such as Phan Thiet, Cam Ranh, Nha Trang and Van Phong economic zone.
This route helps shorten travel time from more than 10 hours to about 5-6 hours.

According to forecasts by functional forces, during the 2026 Lunar New Year, the traffic volume on the expressway will increase by 200-300% compared to normal days.
Faced with the increasing risk of traffic accidents, Highway Traffic Police Team No. 6 issued a warning. In which, special attention is paid to the risk of tire blowouts - likened to a potential "bomb" on the highway.
At about 8:15 am on October 17, 2025, at Km35+900 Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway (section passing through Tan Minh commune, Lam Dong province), a self-inflicted traffic accident occurred.
At the above time, a truck with license plate 61H-086.68 driven by Nguyen Dac L (born 1993, residing in Thuan An, Binh Duong) was traveling in the direction of Dau Giay - Phan Thiet when the rear right tire suddenly burst, causing the car to lose control and overturn itself.
As a result, there were no casualties, but one car and a section of median strip were damaged.
The traffic police team promptly arrived to regulate and divert traffic, preventing traffic jams, and at the same time checked the driver's alcohol and drug concentration, the result was no violations detected.
According to the traffic police force, tire breaks on highways often originate from a number of causes such as: Tire wear, cracks, expired tires (still good on the outside but rotten on the inside); overloaded vehicles, traveling long distances in hot weather conditions.
There are also reasons for tire pressure not meeting standards; collisions with hard objects, potholes, and metal fragments on the road surface.
According to the Traffic Police Department, when tires break at high speed, vehicles are very likely to lose control, overturn or collide with other vehicles. Many accidents on highways are serious because drivers do not have time to handle the situation.
To prevent accidents, the traffic police force recommends people: Check the wear, pressure and expiration date of tires at professional tire service centers before departure; arrange reasonable rest time; when traveling long distances, there should be two drivers in turn.
In case of unfortunate tire blowouts on the highway, drivers need to hold the steering wheel tightly, slowly release the gas; do not brake suddenly; move the vehicle into the emergency stop lane and place a warning object at least 150m away from the vehicle.
Functional forces also noted that when encountering problems on the highway, people can contact the support phone number: 1900 8099 for timely guidance and support.
