On November 7, the working group of the Ministry of National Defense led by Major General Hoang Huu Chien, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Border Guard, inspected the results of the implementation of the task of combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing at the Coast Guard Region 4 Command. The delegation included Major General Dam Xuan Tuan, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard.
In recent times, the Coast Guard Region 4 Command has implemented many drastic solutions, innovating propaganda work on preventing and combating IUU fishing in visual and vivid forms, such as organizing mock trials, distributing leaflets and propaganda documents at fishing ports and wharves, contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of fishermen.
The unit has coordinated and exchanged more than 260 pieces of information with joint forces and local authorities related to IUU prevention and control; promptly investigated and handed over serious violations, and handed over documents to competent authorities.

In coordination, Coast Guard Region 4 closely maintains relations with Naval Region 5, An Giang Provincial Military Command, Border Guard Squadron 28 and local functional forces; effectively participates in the fourth bilateral conference on hotline communication with the Cambodian Forward Strategic Command, contributing to strengthening international coordination in the fight against IUU fishing.
Determining that propaganda along with support, inspection and supervision is an important solution, law enforcement forces at sea have deployed many rich and effective forms of propaganda. Officers and soldiers went to fishing ports, fish markets, and wharves to propagate laws, instruct on the use of voyage monitoring devices (VMS) and information on combating IUU. Thereby raising awareness and creating positive public opinion in the fishing community about the responsibility and rights when complying with regulations.
The working group highly appreciated the results, creative approaches and sense of responsibility of officers and soldiers of Coast Guard Region 4 in carrying out the task of preventing and combating IUU fishing in recent times.
The activities are implemented comprehensively, synchronously, with focus and key points, promoting the effectiveness of propaganda, inspection, supervision, and coordination with functional forces and coastal localities. During the peak month, propaganda work was promoted, associated with the application of information technology and digital transformation; Coast Guard Region 4 coordinated with the Border Guard to strictly control ships entering and leaving the wharf, coordinated to coordinate smoothly, quickly and according to procedures, effectively handling violations, not allowing hot spots to arise.
The working group requested that in the coming time, Coast Guard Region 4 continue to improve the quality and effectiveness of legal propaganda for fishermen, patrol, inspect, control, manage, and closely monitor fishing vessels operating at sea, resolutely handle violations..., contribute to removing the "yellow card" of the European Commission (EC) and developing sustainable fisheries.
