After more than 2 years of construction (from January 1, 2023), although the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project encountered many difficulties, under the strong direction of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and ministries and branches, the project has had many positive changes, currently reaching about 58% of the contract value and expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The project required 18 million cubic meters of sand for the foundation, but river sand was scarce, causing the project to be behind schedule. In early July 2024, the contractor used sea sand for construction, basically overcoming the shortage of materials.
To speed up the progress, during the Lunar New Year 2025, many construction units will work day and night, making an important contribution to the construction of traffic infrastructure.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh - Deputy Director of Truong Son Nam Board (Truong Son Corporation) - said that during Tet, 4 bridge locations were focused on completing concrete pouring, beam installation, and 2 locations for sand and rock loading with about 150 employees.
According to the My Thuan Project Management Board (investor), during Tet, there were 234 construction teams and 2,881 personnel, along with 926 pieces of machinery and equipment. The main construction items were roadbed compaction, load-bearing embankment, curb and embankment construction, pile driving, girder placement, and concrete pouring of bridge deck.
Up to now, the main route from Can Tho to Hau Giang has been paved with asphalt concrete for the first 250m. Contractor Company 492 also constructed 130m of asphalt for the Hau Giang - Ca Mau route. The asphalt paving marks the transition from roadbed construction to highway surface completion.
The Can Tho – Ca Mau Expressway is divided into two component projects, including the Can Tho – Hau Giang section and the Hau Giang – Ca Mau section, invested by the My Thuan Project Management Board. The total investment is more than VND 27,500 billion, including 4 construction packages (Can Tho – Hau Giang section has 1 package, Hau Giang – Ca Mau section has 3 packages), starting on January 1, 2023, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
The Can Tho - Hau Giang and Hau Giang - Ca Mau sections have a main route length of 110.85km (through Can Tho city 0.6km, Hau Giang province 63.65km, Bac Lieu province 7.7km, Kien Giang province 17km, Ca Mau province 21.9km) and 25.85km of connecting route.
