On May 7, according to the Bac Giang Electronic Information Portal, Hanoi - Bac Giang BOT Investment Joint Stock Company has just sent a document to the Ministry of Construction and the Vietnam Road Administration, proposing to expand the Hanoi - Bac Giang expressway to a scale of 10 lanes under the form of public-private partnership (PPP).
Explaining this proposal, the company said that the traffic volume through the toll station is currently about 53,500 trips/day and night.
Meanwhile, according to the financial plan in the BOT contract, the completed traffic of the route in 2022 will be only over 46,000 trips/day and night. Notably, traffic volume has continued to increase steadily at a rate of about 11% per year in the past three years.
The increase in vehicles has caused the road to be overloaded, no longer ensuring the speed of operation, often causing congestion, potential risk of accidents and increasing transportation costs, affecting the competitiveness of the area.
It is necessary to soon invest in expanding the Hanoi - Bac Giang expressway to a scale of 8 lanes according to the plan. However, based on the reality of rapidly increasing traffic volume, Hanoi - Bac Giang BOT Investment Joint Stock Company proposed that the Ministry of Construction allow the proposal to expand the route to 10 lanes under the PPP method to meet increasing transportation needs, improve service quality, reduce traffic congestion and accidents.
The project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 1 section Hanoi - Bac Giang under the BOT form has a total investment of more than 4,000 billion VND, invested by a consortium including Van Phu Investment Joint Stock Company, Dong Son Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company, Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Corporation, Dai Duong Group Joint Stock Company.
The Hanoi - Bac Giang expressway has a total length of more than 46km, put into operation since April 2016 and started collecting tolls from May of the same year, with a toll collection period of 21 years.
The project is designed according to highway standards, with an operating speed of 100km/h.
According to the Road Network Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, the Hanoi - Bac Giang - Lang Son expressway is 137km long, with a scale of 6 lanes. The 46km Hanoi - Bac Giang section is planned to be expanded to 8 expressway lanes.
