Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Permanent Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Duong Tan Hien - informed that after more than two decades of affirming its position as the center of development momentum of the Mekong Delta, Can Tho City is focusing on investing in transport infrastructure, especially highways, to realize the goal of becoming an important transport unit of the whole region and international transport connectivity.

According to Mr. Hien, this consistent policy is clearly expressed in important resolutions of the Politburo, including Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW and Resolution No. 13-NQ/TW, as well as concretized in the planning system at all levels, especially the Can Tho City Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.
Currently, both the Central and the city are actively mobilizing diverse capital sources to implement key transport projects, creating leverage for Can Tho to maximize its central role, regional development momentum, and become a unit of intra-regional transport and international transport connectivity, in accordance with the spirit of the resolutions.

Mr. Hien said that in the context of the whole country's arrangement and reorganization of administrative units, optimizing the efficiency of investment in transport infrastructure, especially highways, is becoming even more urgent.
All factors and solutions need to be deployed synchronously to build a smooth and modern transportation system. This not only contributes to expanding the development space for localities after the reorganization but also creates new momentum, promoting the city's socio-economic development to be worthy of being the driving force center of the region and one of the important growth poles of the country," said Mr. Hien.
To achieve this goal, the Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City said that Can Tho City has proposed many key solutions in the coming time.
In particular, the city prioritizes planning and investing in economic driving areas, focusing on developing potential areas along new routes and connecting with expressways; continuing to complete infrastructure of industrial zones and clusters, attract investment, modernize trade infrastructure, build modern logistics centers, develop Cai Cui Port into an international seaport and build an aviation logistics center at Can Tho airport.

The city also strengthens coordination with the Central Government and investors of expressway projects, including reviewing and arranging reasonable connections between expressways and local and regional transport networks, ensuring safety and efficiency of exploitation. The goal is to closely connect urban areas, rural areas, industrial parks, high-tech parks, tourist areas, new urban areas, seaports and airports.
Along with resources from the central level, the city will actively invest in highways passing through the area, ensuring the implementation progress. At the same time, proactively research and update the planning of the localities after administrative arrangement, supplement land use plans, review and adjust construction plannings and urban plannings. The objective is to ensure the cohesion, connection and synchronization between highways and local transport systems, thereby developing economic spaces and making the most of the advantages that the highway routes bring.
With synchronous solutions and high determination, Can Tho City is demonstrating strong steps in building a modern transport infrastructure system, creating a solid foundation for comprehensive development and affirming the role of a driving force of the Mekong Delta in the future.
