Expressway and airport open up new expectations for the Central Highlands

In parallel with accelerating the arrangement and streamlining of the administrative apparatus, the two provinces of Gia Lai and Kon Tum are making efforts to disburse public investment capital on schedule, at the same time, proposing that central ministries and branches support investment in transport infrastructure to strengthen regional connectivity and linkage with coastal provinces.

Kon Tum needs airports and highways

In March 2025, the People's Committee of Kon Tum province directed competent agencies to complete the province's pilot projects according to plan. The project to build a bridge and road from Ia Chim Tourist Area to Ya Ly Commune, Kon Tum City must be completed in 2025.

For the Kon Tum city's main road project in the West, the investor requires the contractor to arrange enough human resources and materials according to the principle of "wherever the site is cleared, construction will be done". At the construction site, workers are working hard in the hot weather, performing items such as pouring concrete for bridge girders, asphalt pavement, and roadbed compaction, creating a vibrant and determined working atmosphere.

Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan, emphasized the stability of the administrative apparatus and the psychology of cadres, workers and employees, and assigned specific targets to units to complete socio-economic tasks, meeting growth needs.

In 2025, Kon Tum proposed that the Government issue a mechanism to attract strategic investors to implement key projects in the Central Highlands, especially Mang Den National Eco-tourism Area.

To achieve the goal of welcoming 2.5 million tourists, the province proposed that the Ministry of Construction add the Mang Den Airport planning to the overall planning for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 according to the simplified procedure. The province also requested the Government to promptly implement investment procedures for the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway to enhance inter-regional connectivity and promote socio-economic development.

Opening a major road for agricultural exports

Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Rah Lan Chung, has just requested the Department of Construction and the Department of Finance to prepare procedures for key projects, including the Quy Nhon - Pleiku Expressway and upgrading Pleiku International Airport.

Gia Lai's development orientation is based on three main pillars.

First, develop the rural economy in the direction of applying high technology, towards organic and sustainable agriculture, while improving productivity, product quality and promoting exports.

Second, making tourism a spearhead economic sector, sustainable development according to the identity of the Central Highlands, contributing to raising the level of Vietnam's tourism brand.

Third, develop selective industries, take advantage of local advantages, limit raw exports, increase product added value, and at the same time create a favorable environment to attract investment, innovate technology and link the supply chain.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also proposed that the central ministries and branches add the North-South expressway section in the West from Pleiku (Gia Lai) to Buon Ma Thuot (Dak Lak) to the investment portfolio before 2030. At the same time, the province recommended that the Ministry of Finance balance capital sources and support the budget to carry out compensation and site clearance, creating conditions for the implementation of the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway. This project not only connects inter-provincial areas, connects forests and seas, but also facilitates the export of thousands of tons of agricultural products such as coffee, pepper, and passion fruit to the European, US, and Japanese markets.

Gia Lai proposed that the Central Government support an additional VND64.9 billion to implement the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, contributing to improving people's lives.
