The patient is Mr. La Van Tru (60 years old, from Hoai Nhon Dong, Gia Lai), a crew member of fishing vessel BD 97863 TS captained by Mr. Ton Van Duong (from Hoai Nhon, Gia Lai). The vessel departed from March 7, 2026.
At about 4 am on March 29, while fishing with friends on the boat, Mr. Tru suddenly fell into a drowsy state, did not answer when asked, although he still responded when stimulated.
Both hands and feet were still moving but a situation of tongue drooping and wheezing appeared. The patient did not fall.

By 2:00 PM on March 30, 2026, the patient was taken to the Truong Sa island clinic. Immediately upon receiving the information, the island commander urgently directed the preparation for reception and emergency treatment.
The results of the specialist examination showed that the patient had complete paralysis of the right III nerve, normal vision, no facial paralysis, no dysphagia, mild weakness of the left half of the body with muscle strength of 4/5 of the limbs, no sensory disturbances recorded.
Paraclinical tests such as blood counting, biochemistry, chest X-ray, electrocardiogram and heart ultrasound have not detected significant abnormalities.
The patient has a history of hypertension, coronary artery stenosis, had a stent in 2016 and diabetes was detected 3 years ago.
After professional consultation, doctors diagnosed and monitored cerebral infarction due to the root cause of basilar atherosclerosis, which needs to be distinguished from cerebral hemorrhage.
Currently, the patient is being treated with blood sugar control, using statins, considering using antiplatelet drugs, lying motionless, head elevated, oxygen support and closely monitoring vital signs, especially the risk of cerebral edema.
Patients continue to be monitored and treated at the infirmary. When the condition stabilizes, they will be transferred ashore by waterway; in case of worsening developments, air transport may be considered.
