On the morning of April 9, Song Tu Tay island clinic (Truong Sa special zone) received and promptly rescued a fisherman from Quang Ngai province with suspected stroke symptoms during seafood exploitation at sea.
The patient is Mr. Nguyen Van Quan (60 years old), a crew member of ship QNg 95041 TS. According to initial information, on April 5, when the ship was operating in the area about 4 nautical miles north of Da Thi island, Mr. Quan suddenly showed abnormal symptoms while eating rice.
Specifically, the patient feels weak, has difficulty walking, nausea and vomiting food, urinary incontinence, pain and fatigue in the left neck and shoulder area; the condition of weakness in the left half of the body is more obvious than on the right. Symptoms progress gradually in the following days.
At 6 am on April 9, the patient was brought to Song Tu Tay island clinic in a state of alertness, responsiveness, good execution of medical orders, and regular heartbeat. Through examination, it was recorded that the muscle strength of both arms reached 5/5; right leg 5/5, left leg reduced to 4/5.
After clinical evaluation, doctors diagnosed and monitored acute stroke, suspected subcutaneous damage to the right cerebral hemisphere, and 3rd-day cerebral infarction.
Doctors and nurses conducted professional consultations and at the same time implemented treatment measures such as closely monitoring the progression of the disease, controlling blood pressure, using drugs to support brain circulation, increasing nerve conduction and giving the patient oxygen.
According to Song Tu Tay island clinic, after passing the initial emergency phase, the patient will be transferred to the mainland by the nearest ship to continue treatment. The current prognosis is assessed as severe.
