Kieu Chinh bridge in Phu Binh commune, Thai Nguyen was built according to Decision No. 6533 dated December 31, 2017 of the People's Committee of Phu Binh district (old) to serve transportation and connecting residents.
After many years of implementation and construction, the project was abandoned and became a garbage and material gathering point.
The bridge is 26m long and 11m wide, with a total investment of more than 12 billion VND. In 2021, the bridge was handed over but has not been put into effective use.
The main reason for the abandonment of the project is that one side of the bridge has not yet been invested in access roads.
In front is still a low-lying field, about 3m lower than the bridge surface, making the bridge a dead end.
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper in August 2025, at the scene, piles of household waste and construction materials were piled up and scattered and thrown haphazardly on the bridge surface, posing a potential risk of environmental pollution.
On sunny days, the stench is very strong, flies are everywhere, making the surrounding area unpleasant.
Having a house near Kieu Chinh bridge area, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa (Phu Binh commune) said that the situation of the bridge being abandoned has existed for many years.
According to Mr. Hoa, the bridge is lying motionless, leading to some people using it as a place to dump garbage and waste materials, causing a foul smell for a long time, affecting the environment and the lives of surrounding households.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, a trader who often passes through this area, said that the bridge has been abandoned for many years, causing waste of investment resources.
"I hope to soon have a plan to put the bridge into use to promote its function and serve the travel needs of the people instead of becoming the current dumping site," Ms. Nga added.
Regarding the incident, Mr. Nguyen Hong Xung - Deputy Chief of Office of Phu Binh Commune People's Committee said that Kieu Chinh Bridge cannot be exploited because the connecting route through Ngoc Xuan Residential Area project has not yet been implemented.
According to Mr. Xung, the Ngoc Xuan Residential Area project is currently facing difficulties in site clearance for some households, so the progress cannot be implemented synchronously, causing the bridge to remain abandoned.
In the coming time, the locality will continue to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to hand over the site, remove difficulties, and speed up the project progress to soon put the bridge to promote its functions.
