On October 15, information from the Department of Transport of Bac Giang province said that the Cam Ly bridge project is being actively directed by the provincial People's Committee to be implemented by departments, branches, and the People's Committee of Luc Nam district; construction is expected to start in April 2025.
Previously, at the end of 2023, the Ministry of Transport approved the investment policy for Cam Ly railway bridge in Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province.
Accordingly, the Cam Ly railway bridge project Km24+134 of the Kep - Ha Long railway line has a total estimated investment of up to 799.55 billion VND, capital allocated in the period 2021-2025 from the central budget.
The project has a total route length of about 3,014m with the starting point in Cam Ly commune, Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province and the ending point in Bac Lung commune, Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province.
Cam Ly Bridge (Luc Nam District, Bac Giang Province) crosses the Luc Nam River, built in 1979, is 272.4m long, consisting of 4 steel spans, each span is 64.6m long.
This is the only bridge in the country that is still used for both trains and cars to travel on the same bridge.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper also had many articles reflecting that this bridge has seriously degraded, posing many potential traffic accident risks.
Accordingly, every day, in addition to trains, there are thousands of heavy trucks passing through Cam Ly bridge, leading to serious overload of the bridge.
Most of these trucks from Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong going to Lang Son and Cao Bang provinces have chosen to go through Cam Ly bridge to both shorten the distance by dozens of kilometers and avoid some toll stations.
Because the original design was mainly for trains, there was only one lane of traffic, so traffic participants encountered many difficulties and inconveniences when crossing the bridge.
Not to mention, the design of the lane for motorbikes and bicycles is very small, only about 1 meter wide, the railings are thin and low, the bottom is made of concrete slabs, when motorbikes move, they will vibrate.
People said that even though they cross the bridge every day, they always feel scared, especially when it rains or there are strong winds.
