On December 27, speaking with Lao Dong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Yen - Chairman of Quang Trung Ward People's Committee (Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh) confirmed that an incident of a tree being uprooted and falling on a pedestrian had just occurred in the area, injuring one person.
"When we heard that a person had been hit by a fallen tree on the road, we went to check the scene. Upon inspection, the fallen tree was still green and undamaged. We don't know why it fell. The person who was hit by the tree was taken to the hospital for a check-up, fortunately only suffered minor injuries.
Two months ago, the ward asked the environmental company to inspect and cut down trees that were at risk of falling during the rainy season to ensure people's safety," said Ms. Yen.
At around 10:20 a.m. the same day, a large milk flower tree on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street (Quang Trung Ward) suddenly fell onto the street, crushing a man riding a motorbike.
A witness to the incident said: "I was walking from Nguyen Thai Hoc Street towards Tay Son Street, about 30 meters from where the tree fell, when I saw the tree fall onto the street. The tree branch fell on a man riding a motorbike on the street, causing everyone to panic."
At the scene, the milk flower tree, about 30cm in diameter and 5m high, was uprooted and fell into the middle of the road. Next to the tree was the victim’s damaged motorbike.
According to information from Binh Dinh General Hospital, after being taken to the hospital by local people for treatment, the man who was crushed by the tree was determined to have only minor injuries and was allowed to go home.
