The fire started at around 6:40 p.m. in an area planted with acacia, pine, and eucalyptus trees in Tien Hai village. This area was recently severely affected by storm No. 3.
After receiving the news, Minh Chau Commune People's Committee mobilized hundreds of people along with police, military, forest rangers and border guards to coordinate in fighting the fire.
The forces quickly deployed firefighting plans and created firebreaks to prevent the fire from spreading, ensuring people's safety.
According to the leader of Minh Chau Commune People's Committee, the fire occurred in an area with a thick layer of vegetation, along with the impact of storm No. 3 causing many trees to fall, combined with strong monsoon winds, causing the fire to spread quickly and making it difficult to fight the fire.
By around 8:30 a.m. on October 2, the fire was basically under control, and the forces continued to handle the remaining small fires. The total area of damaged forest is estimated at about 10 hectares.
After storm No. 3, Quang Ninh had more than 117,000 hectares of forest damaged, with many areas of acacia, eucalyptus and pine trees broken and unlikely to recover. This increased the risk of forest fires in the province.
To ensure fire prevention and fighting and forest area restoration after the storm, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province issued Document No. 2798 on September 26, requesting relevant units to strengthen solutions for forest management, protection and forest fire prevention.
