At about 11:30 pm on January 2nd, on the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway, the section south of Than Vu tunnel (Tan Linh commune, Nghe An), a passenger car running the Ha Tinh - Hanoi route suddenly caught fire at the front of the car. The driver brought the vehicle into the emergency stop so that passengers could escape in time and used a mini fire extinguisher to put out the fire, but it was unsuccessful.
The fire then spread quickly, covering the entire car. The Fire and Rescue Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police dispatched specialized vehicles and forces to the scene. After about an hour, the fire was controlled, but the car was burned down. Checking inside, functional forces discovered a male passenger who had died.
The incident caused traffic through the area to be congested for about 2-3 hours. The expressway operator coordinated with the Traffic Police to organize traffic diversion, taking vehicles to branch N5 Nghi Phuong; the bus company arranged other vehicles to carry passengers to continue the journey. By early morning of January 3, the scene was cleared, and traffic returned to normal.
