At the same time, coordinating with the forest ranger agency to carry out procedures for receiving, caring for and handling according to regulations.
The Indian peacock individual (Pavo cristatus) was voluntarily handed over to the Ward Police by Mr. Trieu Minh Tam (born in 1978, area 5, Cai Rang ward) after being discovered flying into his home grounds. This is a wild animal belonging to Appendix III of the CITES Convention, which needs to be managed and protected according to regulations.
According to Can Tho City Police, on the afternoon of August 23, Mr. Tam discovered a peacock individual flying into his family's duck cage area. Thinking that this could be a lost pet, he took photos and posted them on social networks with the desire to find the owner. After that, many people contacted to ask to buy the peacock individual for about 5 million VND.
However, from the propaganda and mobilization contents of Cai Rang Ward Police on complying with the provisions of law in wildlife protection, Mr. Tam realized that arbitrarily buying, selling, and keeping wild animals in captivity may violate regulations. Therefore, he did not sell the peacock individual but proactively contacted the Ward Police to hand it over.
Immediately after receiving it, Cai Rang Ward Police carried out the necessary procedures. At the same time, coordinated to hand over the Indian peacock individual to the Rural Development Sub-Department and Can Tho City Forest Protection Department to receive, care for and carry out the steps of treatment and re-release to the natural environment according to regulations.
