Fear of illegal hunting
We went to Mr. Le Van Chia's bird garden of more than 2 hectares in Tan My commune, Tra On district, Vinh Long province to collect many ball bullets, proving that bird hunting is happening frequently.
Mr. Chia said that since 2006, his 2ha garden has become a shelter for about 4-5 thousand wild birds, but now this number has decreased by nearly 50%, possibly due to many people's bird hunting.
According to Mr. Chia, the sound of bullets falling on the corrugated iron roof in the early morning and late afternoon from 5pm to 7pm, even in some cases of corrugated iron being punctured, is a clear sign of illegal hunting taking place in the area.
"This not only threatens the safety of birds but also poses a serious danger to people, especially children when traveling on the road," Mr. Chia shared.

In addition to worrying about the number of birds and storks living in Mr. Chia's garden decreasing and they no longer live here, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy is worried about the safety of her body because bird hunters can shoot at people.
Sharing the same concern, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mui indignantly said: "Sitting washing a dish on the floor, the bullet flew and fell into the water, gusting down on the person, and in a little while it hit him, it was very dangerous. If it hit someone, it would be grinding and if it hit the eye, it would be blind".
Resolutely prevent
Most of the people living around Mr. Le Van Chia's bird sanctuary hope that the authorities will coordinate closely, have quick measures and long-term solutions to prevent illegal hunting.
Discussing with Lao Dong about the illegal hunting of birds and storks in Mr. Chia's garden, Ms. Dang Thi Be Sau - Vice Chairman of Tra On District People's Committee - said that illegal bird hunting is currently a serious problem that needs to be completely resolved.

According to Ba Sau, because many people secretly caught storks in Mr. Chia's garden, the District People's Committee has directed the People's Committee of Tan My commune to send police and militia forces to regularly inspect the area around his garden, in order to prevent thieves from hunting for birds and ensure safety for people in the area.
To achieve high effectiveness in preventing theft, these measures will be maintained long-term and combined with propaganda.
"Not only focusing on handling violations but also helping people better understand the harmful effects of illegal hunting on birds in particular and animals in general," Ms. Dang Thi Be Sau added.
