On January 3, Long Xuyen City held a ceremony to announce Resolution 1285/NQ-UBTVQH15 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of An Giang province, period 2023 - 2025. Attending were Mr. Le Hong Quang - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Ho Van Mung - Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee and representatives of departments, branches of the province and Long Xuyen City.
According to Resolution 1285/NQ-UBTVQH15, effective from January 1, 2025, the entire natural area of 1.39km2, with 11,470 people of Dong Xuyen ward, will be merged into My Xuyen ward. After the merger, My Xuyen ward will have a natural area of 2km2, with 23,383 people and border My Binh, My Hoa, My Long and My Phuoc wards of Long Xuyen city.
From this arrangement, Long Xuyen city reduced 1 commune-level administrative unit, leaving 12 commune-level administrative units (10 wards, 2 communes) and An Giang province has 155 commune-level administrative units (including 110 communes, 27 wards, 18 towns).
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee of Long Xuyen City Party Committee also announced the decision to establish the My Xuyen Ward Party Committee under the Long Xuyen City Party Committee, including 15 subordinate Party cells, on the basis of merging the My Xuyen Ward Party Committee and the Dong Xuyen Ward Party Committee.
At the same time, the Executive Committee of the My Xuyen Ward Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term was appointed, consisting of 18 people, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of 5 people, and Mr. Ngo Nhut Thang was appointed to hold the position of Secretary of the My Xuyen Ward Party Committee. Previously, the People's Council of My Xuyen Ward held its first meeting to elect the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman of the People's Council and People's Committee and People's Committee according to regulations. Mr. Nguyen Vien Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Ward Party Committee, was elected to hold the position of Chairman of the Ward People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term.
