On July 29, information from Sub-Department of Customs Region XVI, recently, Thanh Thuy International Border Gate Customs has increased the use of nghiệp vụ dogs at the inspection yard to improve the effectiveness of detecting and preventing drugs and drug precursors from smuggling across borders.
Thanh Thuy International Border Gate (Tuyen Quang) is an area with a large volume of import and export vehicles and goods.
Faced with increasingly sophisticated drug hiding methods, customs forces have coordinated with trainers to send nghiệp vụ dogs to inspect shipments subject to actual inspection or vehicles with suspicious signs.
Professional dogs are used to scan locations such as cabins, hollows, spare tires, cargo boxes, agricultural sacks and areas at risk of containing banned substances.
With a sharp sense of smell, sniffer dogs can detect traces of drugs even when disguised or wrapped in many layers, helping functional forces quickly zone, inspect and handle them.
According to Thanh Thuy International Border Gate Customs, the use of nghiệp vụ dogs not only improves control efficiency, contributes to shortening goods inspection time, facilitates customs clearance activities, but also increases deterrence against smugglers and illegal drug transporters.
This is one of the solutions maintained by the unit to ensure security and safety in the border gate area and maintain the border area.
Customs Region XVI was established in the process of arranging and streamlining the organizational structure of the Customs sector according to a new model, officially going into operation from July 1, 2025.
The unit is organized on the basis of rearranging the local customs system, performing the function of state management of customs in Cao Bang and Tuyen Quang provinces.
