Resettlement market in Quang Binh was built and then abandoned for 4 years

The resettlement market with a total cost of 5.4 billion VND in Quang Binh was completed in 2021 but has not yet been put into operation.

4 years of abandonment, causing waste

Recently, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters received feedback from residents of Vinh Son village (Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province) about the resettlement market project worth billions of dong in the locality being abandoned and not being used after many years of completion.

According to the reporter's investigation, the resettlement market project in Quang Dong commune has a scale of 1 floor, with a total construction area of 404.3 square meters. This resettlement market project was implemented from 2020 and completed in 2021 with a total construction investment of 5.4 billion VND.

It is expected that after completion, the project will help local people in the resettlement area have a convenient place to buy and sell goods and food. However, after 4 years of completion, the project has not been exploited and used, leaving it abandoned, causing waste, making people regret.

Mr. Nguyen The Vuong (Vinh Son village, Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province) said that when seeing the market built spaciously and cleanly but eventually abandoned, it made people regret. Mr. Vuong hopes that the local government will have optimal methods to help the market come into operation as soon as possible. This will help people avoid having to travel long distances to the markets like at present.

According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, at the resettlement market site in Vinh Son village, the market is currently locked and shows no signs of activity. Due to not being used for a long time, the market is covered with dust, and some equipment has begun to break down and deteriorate.

The billion-dollar project was completed and then abandoned for many years, leading to deterioration, causing regret among local people.

Relevant units involved

To verify the reason why the 5.4 billion VND market has been abandoned for many years, causing waste, the reporter talked with Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien - Chairman of Quang Dong Commune People's Committee. Mr. Hien informed that the resettlement market project was invested by ODA representative to carry out the construction according to the planning of the resettlement area.

After acceptance, the market must be recognized as a new market before it can be put into use. However, when carrying out the procedures for recognizing the market, the relevant departments inspected and said that there was no wastewater drainage system so the market could not be put into use. The local government also hopes to resolve the issue soon so that people have a place to trade and do business.

Mr. Phan Van Thanh - Chairman of Quang Trach District People's Committee - said that the market is implementing environmental and fire prevention and fighting measures to ensure compliance with regulations.

In addition to building the market, the government is continuing to build the resettlement area phase 4, during which it will invest in implementing related items. The People's Committee of Quang Trach district is requesting related units to carry out procedures and complete additional items for the market to come into operation.
