The project to upgrade and expand National Highway 50 will start construction at the end of 2022, with a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND. The project is nearly 7 km long, starting from the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh Avenue (Binh Chanh District) to the end point bordering Long An Province.
The road is expanded from 8 m to 34 m, including 6 lanes. Of which, more than 4 km is a new parallel route, the rest is to expand the existing route.
According to the report sent to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on April 23, the People's Committee of Binh Chanh District confirmed that the site clearance work for the National Highway 50 expansion project has been completed.
However, on May 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) sent a document to the People's Committee of Binh Chanh District, stating that there are still 3 locations that have not been handed over the site, including: the parallel road section of National Highway 50, the existing National Highway 50 section and the Ong Thin bridge area.
Explaining this issue at a regular press conference on the afternoon of May 15, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri - Deputy Head of the Compensation and Site Clearance Board of Binh Chanh District - said that the reason comes from the investor's delay in receiving the site or slow construction, causing people to change their intentions and hinder construction.
According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri, at the parallel road of National Highway 50, a household with a land area of 627.4 m2 in the project invested by Khang Phuc Housing Investment and Trading Company Limited, of which 615 m2 is within the boundary of the National Highway 50 upgrade project.
This household has handed over the site since April 11, 2025. The Compensation and Site Clearance Board has notified the Traffic Board to receive the vacant site, however, it was not until May 9 that the investor took over this position.

In the existing National Highway 50 area, a household was affected with an area of 1,259.1 m2 in the Garbage Project Zone II (of which 201 m2 is within the National Highway 50 project boundary). The Compensation Board has completed compensation, support and resettlement policies.
Although this household agreed to hand over the site in early April 2025, due to construction delays, they changed their minds. Thanks to the mobilization of local authorities, the household later agreed to continue construction.
At Ong Thin bridge area, the last household to demolish houses and works and hand over the site from April 10, 2024. However, the construction is not taking place continuously, causing frustration among the people. After the contact and mobilization process of the government, this household also agreed to resume construction.
"We affirm that up to now, the entire site for the construction of the National Highway 50 expansion project has been 100% handed over" - Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri emphasized.
According to the Traffic Department, the parallel route of National Highway 50 has completed about 90% of the volume, the entire project has reached about 67%.
The Traffic Department is committed to speeding up the progress of the remaining part after having enough land, completing the entire project by the end of this year.
