On November 28, Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan chaired a meeting on drainage plans for the central area.
In his speech, Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan requested that immediately after the meeting, the Department of Construction must have a detailed plan to assess the current situation, especially urgent measures to handle flooding. Research and develop a plan for the start of flood prevention work from December 20.
All the contents of dredging sewers, streams, building works to serve drainage, and preventing flooding must be included in the urgent task to speed up progress. It is necessary to ensure slopes to drain water effectively, and floodgates and revenue gates must be expanded.
Bottlenecks such as a narrow sewer system are proposed to be replaced with a wider sewer system to ensure drainage capacity. At the same time, calculate the dumping location to ensure standards and convenience in the implementation process.
The head of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee assigned the Chairman of Phan Dinh Phung Ward People's Committee to take responsibility, urgently clear the land, and mobilize people to dismantle the illegal construction. The Chairman of the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee requested that all violating and encroaching works affecting drainage must be dismantled before December 15.
Over the past 2 years, Thai Nguyen has continuously suffered from widespread flooding, seriously affecting people's lives and production and business.
Most recently, in the historic flood in early October 2025, the locality suffered more than VND12,200 billion in damage, nearly 70,000 houses were flooded.
In fact, in the center of Thai Nguyen, over 50mm of rain caused many areas to be deeply flooded. The reality of heavy rain and flooding greatly affects people's lives.
