At about 6:30 pm on February 22, in group 8, Tran The hamlet, Giang Thanh commune, An Giang province, a forest fire occurred in the area managed by the Phu My Species and Habitat Conservation Area Management Board.
According to a quick report from functional forces, the fire was discovered by people along the roadside, close to the water cajeput area in the conservation area. Recognizing the high risk of fire spreading due to strong winds, the grassroots security force promptly reported to the Commune People's Committee. The Chairman of Giang Thanh Commune People's Committee directly directed and mobilized nearly 140 people to participate in firefighting, including Ha Tien - Kien Luong Fire and Rescue Police, Commune Police and Giang Thanh Commune Military Command, grassroots security, Phu My Border Guard Station, Forest Protection Department, Region IV Forest Protection Department and the Management Board of the Conservation Area and fire fighting equipment. By 24:00 on the same day, the fire was controlled and completely extinguished. The state of the forest being burned was mainly Barringtonia acutangula fields, turmeric interspersed with water cajeput trees; special-use forest type.
Currently, the cause of the fire and damage are being verified and clarified.
After the incident, Phu My Species - Habitat Conservation Area strengthened forces to be on duty and patrol to protect the managed area; closely coordinated with functional agencies to promote propaganda on forest fire prevention and fighting and supplement necessary vehicles and equipment to proactively prevent and minimize the risk of forest fires in the coming time.
