The Km0 milestone is located on Nguyen Trai Street, Ha Giang City, the starting point of National Highway 2 connecting Ha Giang and Hanoi. From this location, it is the starting point on the journey to explore famous tourist destinations such as Dong Van ancient town, Stone plateau, Lung Cu Flag Tower, Ma Pi Leng Pass, Quan Ba double mountain.
For a long time, the Km0 milestone has been rumored by tourists to be a must-chick destination when coming to Ha Giang. In fact, in the 26/3 Square area of Ha Giang City, there are 2 Km0 milestones located at the same location.
The first milestone is similar to other traffic milestones with a guiding effect made of concrete, designed simply, placed next to National Highway 2, on 4 sides with the parameters: "QL.2", "Km 290", "Ha Giang 0 km", "QL.2" and "Tuyen Quang 155km".
The second milestone is more like a tourist destination when located in the 26/3 Square area next to the Lo River. The newly built part is made of diamond, railing and natural stone paving with three parts: the top is ball-shaped, about 90cm in diameter; the body is pillar-shaped, 150cm high, 100cm long and the foot is terraced, 100cm high.
The landmark sides are written in three languages: Vietnamese, English, Chinese, including the following parameters: QL2 KM290, Ha Giang Km 0; date of establishment: 20 - 8 - 1891, area: 7,884.37km2, Ha Giang - Hanoi: 320km, Ha Giang - Dong Van: 155km and below are the words National Standard Bridge 104.499m.
The location of the marker is located in the campus with a spacious and airy space, ensuring traffic safety, so it has become a place for taking photos and visiting many tourists. According to people in Ha Giang city, this area has been built for nearly 20 years.
However, for many tourists, each Km0 milestone has its own meaning. Ms. Hoang Le Anh (Hanoi City) said that the small marker located next to the road has traditional values and something is dustyder, while the newly built marker made of stone gives visitors an additional choice to visit.
"Personally, I think that maintaining both Km0 milestones is appropriate, both to guide traffic and meet the needs of many people," Ms. Le Anh shared.
During the renovation in early 2023, the image of a small Km0 milestone (only a traffic light) suddenly being blown away made many people and tourists regretful.
According to the Ha Giang City Construction Investment Project Management Board, removing the old Km0 markers on the sidewalk helps increase the aesthetics of the park area and ensure safety and convenience for visitors when coming to visit and take photos. However, just a few days later, the small Km0 milestone was re-established by the authorities at the old location.
At that time, a leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang province said that in order to preserve and develop the tourism image of Ha Giang, the industry has consulted with a number of specialized units to take appropriate measures to handle the Km0 milestone, both ensuring aesthetics, traffic safety and maintaining attractions.
Compared to other famous destinations in Ha Giang, the Km0 milestone has almost no many experiences, however, a check-in photo at this location as confirmed has arrived in Ha Giang, so it is especially popular with many tourists.
