On 10.4, the leader of Dong Xuan District People's Committee (Phu Yen) said that after the locality reported the abnormal mud movement from the ground to the agricultural land in Xuan Son Nam commune, the functional branch of the province came to sample and survey to assess the cause of this phenomenon.
"Up to this morning, the mudflowing phenomenon is still happening but intermittently, not continuously," he said.
According to the People's Committee of Dong Xuan district, this phenomenon occurred since April 7 on the agricultural production land plot of Mr. Nguyen Van Loi (born in 2019, residing in Xuan Son Nam commune). As of April 9, mud continued to erode, spreading to the surrounding area.
The mud is light yellow, smooth, mixed with sand, dirt, no strange smell and the temperature is at normal. The depth of the mudslide has not yet been determined, but many cracks have appeared on the ground surface around the area.
Through the situation from local people, about 46 years ago, a similar phenomenon of mudflow occurred in this area. At that time, a team of experts came to survey, but the results were unknown.
In response to this incident, the authorities of Phu Yen province took samples and surveyed the scene. The Central Federation for Water Resources Planning and Investigation has also sent forces to this area to assess the cause.
A representative of the Central Federation for Water Resources Planning and Investigation said that the phenomenon of mud and outbreak is not uncommon, it has appeared in many places in Vietnam.
According to professional analysis, the phenomenon occurs when there is an "escape" (ie a gap) underground and there is enough pressure to push mud and water onto the ground. The outbreak process can gradually decrease or stop when the pressure and mud source are no longer strong.
However, to assess and analyze the cause of this phenomenon, there needs to be conclusions from experts. "We have come to the mud outbreak area to record, observe... and will soon have a preliminary report on this phenomenon," he said.
According to the leader of Dong Xuan District People's Committee, the mudslide location was only about 50m from the residential area, causing confusion and concern for local people. In order to ensure safety, avoiding the case of curious people coming near the spray bottle, the locality has expanded the barrier area, arranged forces to be on duty 24/7 to monitor developments, and are ready to evacuate people if there are signs of danger.
The locality also issued a warning, requiring people not to approach this area, not to arbitrarily take mud for use until there is a conclusion from the authorities.
