Journalist Nguyen Huy Dan - former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Lao Dong Newspaper - passed away on April 16, 2025, leaving many regrets for his family, friends and generation who are Lao Dong Newspaper today.

Journalists are not afraid of bombs and bullets falling

Once, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper visited journalist Huy Dan, who was 96 years old at that time, but when mentioning his years working at the newspaper, journalist Huy Dan was still passionate about telling the historical story of Lao Dong Newspaper. The memories and days of dedication to the journalism profession are still intact, flowing, vivid and authentic as if they were just yesterday.

He said: “After the national resistance war, I worked as a worker at the Viet Bac Military Enterprise. In early 1953, I was attended the training class of the Viet Bac Party Committee. First I met was the Editor -in -chief Do Trong Giang.

According to journalist Nguyen Huy Dan, during the "forest compilation" period, the whole agency had only over a dozen people. The number of weekly newspapers is only a few pages, not many, mainly writing articles according to information provided by Vietnam News Agency. At the office, all the brothers ate together at the office. Simple dishes include corn and wild vegetables, occasional cabbage soup, no meat. Life was miserable and miserable, but the reporter brothers lived together very affectionately.

When the Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Factory area was built, journalist Huy Dan was assigned to be a permanent reporter in Thai Nguyen and had many investigative articles and reports that caused great resonance. Notable among them is the investigation into corruption at Quan Trieu Coal Factory.

Journalist Huy Dan recounted: Workers at Quan Trieu coal mine have reported to Lao Dong Newspaper about self-burning coal, self-destroying because the coal contains sulfur. Management staff at Quan Trieu Coal Factory have taken the coal from the factory to sell to power plants in Thai Nguyen, the quantity of which is up to hundreds of tons. After this series of investigations, the State agency has inspected, verified and discovered that the factory leaders have committed violations.

According to journalist Huy Dan, since the resistance war, Lao Dong Newspaper has encouraged reporters to write in-depth investigative articles to attract readers. Later, the number of investigative reports in the newspaper increased, and people's trust in Lao Dong Newspaper also increased.

Exemplary Party member over 75 years old

Journalist Nguyen Huy Dan, born in 1928 in Gia Thuy commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi City. The people of the neighborhood where the journalist lives affectionately call him "Uncle Huy Dan".

After the national resistance war, journalist Huy Dan followed his brother to Hoang Hoa Tham weapons workshop to work as a bricklayer, then converted it into Doi Cung military factory under the Department of Military Region I (Vietnam). In February 1954, the journalist was sent to attend a centralized coaching class organized by the Viet Bac Regional Party Committee. In April 1954, journalist Huy Dan was transferred to work at Lao Dong Newspaper and became a reporter. In 1982, journalist Huy Dan was appointed Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Lao Dong Newspaper. During his 43 years of working, journalist Huy Dan has always completed his tasks excellently and has been awarded many Orders and Medals such as: Resistance Medal, Badge for Journalism and Badge for Trade Union, Commemorative Medal for the Party's Cultural and ideological cause...

In 1991, journalist Huy Dan retired and returned to his hometown of Tan Thuy village, now Tan Thuy street in Phuc Dong ward, Long Bien district, Hanoi. Here, journalist Huy Dan was elected to the Party cell; Chairman of the Association of the Elderly in Gia Thuy commune, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Phuc Dong ward...

By 2025, journalist Huy Dan will have been a Party member for more than 75 years, a role model for cadres and Party members to follow.
