crying when seeing the flooded garden
After the second dike break on December 5, the consequences on Thanh Long Islet were extremely severe, with houses collapsed, and gardens flooded, and people helplessly watched their gardens submerged in water.
Mr. Dang Van Huu - one of 6 households living in Thanh Long Islet - said that the lower part of his family's house was swept away by water due to the broken dike, only the upper part was hanging with a large frog's jaw, at risk of collapsing at any time.
According to Mr. Huu, in just a few hours, strong whirlwinds have eaten deep into the ground, forcing the whole family to move their belongings and run to a safe area because the sound of cracked ground keeps ringing.
"The house is almost collapsed, everyone is afraid of danger. Seeing the property being moved to a safe place, my heart is still heavy, helpless and extremely painful," Mr. Huu choked up.

Houses are gone, gardens are also flooded, losing the most important asset to help people maintain their lives and daily livelihoods.
Standing and seeing more than 4,000m2 of grapefruit, mango and areca nuts submerged in water, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga could not contain her emotions and cried and felt regretful.
Ms. Nga said that after the dike breach at the end of October, the whole family focused on saving each tree, many trees had just planted new potholes, hoping to recover. But this second dike breach submerged the entire body, the water was up to the top, the entire garden was submerged in water in just a few hours.
After many months of caring, it has now disappeared. Seeing the garden submerged in water, my heart ached, unable to hold back my tears, Ms. Nga said chokingly.
The double consequences of 2 consecutive dike breaks caused 6 households in Thanh Long Islet to suffer heavy losses. Houses collapsed, gardens died, livelihoods were threatened, despair was evident on the faces of the people
115 billion VND project urgently completed
Mr. Phan Thanh Minh - Head of Phuoc Ly Nhi Hamlet, Quoi Thien Commune - said that the dike area had had a small landslide since the afternoon of December 4 but was temporarily reinforced; by 11:20 a.m. on December 5, the high tide caused the dike to completely break.
The large water quickly overflowed deep into the alcohol, submerging about 15 hectares of fruit gardens in a short time, leaving many households unable to react and having to move their assets out of the danger zone in the middle of the night.

Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Le Quang Rang - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province - said that the broken dike section within a range of 250m has been declared by the province to be in an emergency natural disaster situation.
In the immediate future, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will coordinate with localities to urgently relocate assets and arrange temporary safe accommodation for people, in order to ensure absolute safety against the risk of further landslides.
The emergency evacuation project for the period 2025-2026 in the landslide area of Vung Liem district (before the merger) was implemented, with a total cost of 115 billion VND, to ensure long-term safety for the people.
