On October 27, Vinh Long Provincial Party Secretary Tran Van Lau directly visited Thanh Long Islet (Quoi Thien Commune, Vinh Long Province) to inspect the actual area of landslides and broken dykes that caused heavy damage to people, and at the same time directed immediate and long-term solutions.
According to the report of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the whole province has had 135 landslides with a total length of more than 7.6 km, affecting 521 households, with estimated damage of about 24.7 billion VND. Of which, Quoi Thien commune is the locality that is greatly affected.
In Thanh Long Islet alone, the high tide on October 23 - 24 broke 15m of the dike, caused landslides and overflow of more than 500m of other dikes, affecting 15 hectares of fruit gardens and 6 households.
Ms. Tran Thi Bay, representative of affected households, shared: "People hope to invest in building solid dykes to ensure production safety. If we have to relocate to the mainland, I hope the government will arrange stable housing, have jobs and support appropriate land compensation".

After listening to the people's opinions, Vinh Long Provincial Party Secretary Tran Van Lau acknowledged his concern, shared the difficulties and emphasized that the government will not let people face the risks of natural disasters.
He requested the Provincial People's Committee and relevant agencies to urgently develop a project to relocate 6 households in areas at high risk of landslides to the mainland for living, ensuring the safety of people's lives, property and long-term livelihoods.
"We must put the safety of the people first. The reinforcement of the dyke needs to be done immediately to protect the fruit garden and production land. At the same time, the province will calculate the plan to arrange residential land, support job conversion and ensure a reasonable compensation policy, so that people can feel secure when leaving the islet for the mainland," Mr. Lau emphasized.
The Secretary of the Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee also requested sectors and localities to continue to closely monitor the development of high tides, proactively respond and promptly support people to overcome the damage.
