Binh Dinh - Police and functional agencies have investigated and handled the situation of "stone bandits" chopping up hills and splitting Hon Cha mountain (Quy Nhon City) to illegally mine stone.

Regarding the current situation of illegal mineral exploitation in Quy Nhon City, which Lao Dong Newspaper reported through the article "Rock bandits" rampant on Hon Cha Mountain in Binh Dinh, on November 28, the leader of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Binh Dinh Province said that he had requested Quy Nhon City to inspect and handle illegal mineral exploitation activities in the Hon Cha Mountain area (Tran Quang Dieu Ward).

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Binh Dinh province requested Quy Nhon City to direct relevant agencies and Tran Quang Dieu ward to strengthen management, inspection and handling of violations in mineral exploitation, transportation and consumption activities; prevent illegal exploitation activities, and prepare records to handle violations according to regulations.

Strengthening management, protection of minerals, environmental landscape and landslide prevention in the area east of Hon Cha mountain.

On the same day, the leader of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quy Nhon City said that after Lao Dong Newspaper reported, the city directed functional forces to inspect mineral exploitation activities on Hon Cha Mountain.

"Through inspection, the force discovered illegal stone mining as reported by the Newspaper. The city and related parties are meeting to discuss and come up with a plan to completely handle this situation. The city has currently assigned the police to take action," he said.

As reported, for nearly a month, many hills of Hon Cha mountain (Tran Quang Dieu ward) have been chopped up by "rock bandits" for illegal stone mining. According to the reporter's records, the Hon Cha mountain area has now become a mess as the forests have gradually disappeared, replaced by messy rock fields, lying exposed to the sky.

Besides the location where PV discovered illegal stone mining, licensed stone mining activities of 2 enterprises also took place massively, unintentionally becoming a "shield" for stone thieves to deceive local people.

Local residents said that during the day, the hill located between the stone quarrying areas of the two companies looked quiet, with no one in sight, only a small, shabby shack and piles of finished stone products, located along the path up and down the mountain. However, strangely, overnight, "the rocks were gone, the mountains were worn away".

Working with Lao Dong, Mr. Dang Thanh Ho - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tran Quang Dieu Ward - confirmed that there was a situation of "stone bandits" illegally mining stone on Hon Cha Mountain, and at the same time admitted the locality's inability to handle "stone bandits", despite having sent people to the mountain to check many times...
