On May 25, information from Con Tien Commune Police (Quang Tri province) said that the unit is coordinating with functional agencies to continue consolidating dossiers and advising on handling the case of violating food safety regulations that occurred at a business establishment in Nam Dong village.
Previously, on May 25, Con Tien Commune Police discovered a Facebook account named "Ta Ky" posting content reflecting the discovery of maggots in a box of sticky rice bought at Hanh Phuc bread shop (in Nam Dong village, Con Tien commune). The above information immediately attracted many comments and shares, causing panic among the people and affecting the security and order situation in the locality.
Immediately after receiving the information, the commune police force urgently proceeded to verify and clarify the incident.
Initial verification results showed that at about 8:00 am on the same day, Ms. N.T. N (born in 2009, residing in Con Tien commune) came to Hanh Phuc bread shop to buy 5 boxes of mixed sticky rice at a price of 10,000 VND/box. This establishment is directly sold by Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huyen (born in 1982, residing in Ha Kenh village, Phu Gia commune, Hue City; currently residing in Nam Dong village, Con Tien commune).
After buying, N and her siblings ate all 4 boxes. The older brother ate the 5th box and discovered many maggots inside. Immediately after that, N brought the box of sticky rice to Hanh Phuc bread shop to complain and the shop owner received the box of sticky rice back and refunded the money.
Working with the police agency, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huyen admitted that due to negligence in the process of processing and preserving food, not checking carefully before selling to customers, leading to the appearance of maggots in food. Fortunately, up to now, no cases of food poisoning or serious health effects have been recorded.
Through actual inspection and legal documents, this business establishment, although presenting a business registration certificate and personal health check-up records, could not present a certificate of food safety eligibility, only providing a commitment to ensure food safety.
Currently, Con Tien Commune Police are continuing to coordinate with competent functional agencies to consolidate dossiers and advise on strict handling of the case in accordance with the law to deter and ensure consumer health.
