Responding to this issue, the Ministry of Transport said that in order to promptly respond to storm No. 3 (storm YAGI) in the East Sea, the Ministry of Transport urgently issued Official Dispatches No. 30/CD - BGTVT dated September 3, 2024, No. 31/CD - BGTVT dated September 4, 2024 to direct agencies and units in the transport sector; at the same time, the Vietnam Road Administration issued Document No. 6065/CDBVNQLGT dated September 4, 2024 on the implementation of the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch.
The dispatch of the Ministry of Transport on proactively preventing, combating and overcoming the aftermath of storm No. 3 includes the following content: “Check and assess the status of bridges in the area affected by storm No. 3; for cable-stayed bridges, suspension bridges (such as Bai Chay bridge, Kien bridge...), weak bridges, it is necessary to organize regular monitoring and timely handling when bad weather affects operations to ensure the safety of the works as well as the safety of people and vehicles traveling across the bridge.
After the Phong Chau bridge collapse, in order to strengthen management and ensure safe operation, the Vietnam Road Administration issued Document No. 6263/CDBVNQLBTDB dated September 12, 2024 to the Departments of Transport of provinces and centrally run cities and road management units requesting urgent inspection and review of the safety of bridge works due to the impact of Storm No. 3. According to the report of the Vietnam Road Administration, currently the Departments of Transport of provinces and centrally run cities have deployed the work of reviewing the safety of bridge works under the direction of the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Road Administration to develop a plan to repair and reinforce 2 bridges (if necessary) to prevent similar incidents to Phong Chau bridge, ensuring absolute safety for people participating in traffic.
