Expanding National Highway 1
The largest of these projects is the expansion of National Highway 1 (Binh Chanh district), from Kinh Duong Vuong street to the Long An border.
National Highway 1 is the main route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Western provinces, but currently the road surface is only 20-25m wide with 4-6 lanes, not enough to meet the increasing traffic volume.
According to the plan, this road section will be expanded to 52m with 8 lanes, with a total investment of nearly 12,900 billion VND, of which nearly 7,700 billion VND will be spent on site clearance.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport is preparing a pre-feasibility study report to implement the project under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) model. The project is expected to start construction at the end of 2025 and be completed in 2028.
Expanding Vinh Loc road
Vinh Loc Street is an important arterial road at the western gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, connecting Binh Chanh District, Binh Tan District and Hoc Mon District. However, with the current road width of only 7-8m, traffic jams often occur, especially during rush hour.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed a project to widen Vinh Loc Street to 30m, with a total investment of VND4,344 billion, using the city's budget.
In addition to the expansion, the project also includes upgrading the Vinh Loc - Tran Van Giau intersection to facilitate easier traffic movement. If approved, the project will be implemented in phases from 2024 to 2027.
Overpass at Bon Xa intersection
Bon Xa Intersection (located between Binh Tan and Tan Phu districts) is the intersection of 6 major roads, including: Binh Long, Thoai Ngoc Hau, Hoa Binh, Phan Anh, Huong Lo 2 and Le Van Quoi. The volume of vehicles moving through this area is very high, leading to serious congestion.
To solve this problem, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has proposed building a two-way overpass in the direction of Le Van Quoi - Hoa Binh.
The overpass is expected to be 280m long and 12m wide, with a total investment of nearly VND2,400 billion, of which land clearance costs account for VND2,091 billion. The project is proposed to be prioritized for implementation in the 2024-2028 period.
Phan Anh Street Expansion
Phan Anh Street, the route connecting Hoa Binh and Ba Hom streets, is also on the list of routes that need to be widened to reduce congestion. Currently, this route is 2km long, but the narrow road surface makes traveling difficult, especially during rush hour.
The project to widen Phan Anh Street to 30m with a total investment of VND1,750 billion has been proposed by the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. If approved, the project will be implemented in the period of 2024 - 2030.
Ba Hom Bridge
Ba Hom Bridge is located on Provincial Road 10 in Binh Tan District, 425m long, of which the main bridge is 93m long and 18m wide. The project started in 2018 with a total investment of about 374 billion VND.
After many years of stagnation due to problems in site clearance, the project was restarted in October 2023. According to plan, Ba Hom Bridge will be opened to traffic at the end of November this year, contributing to reducing traffic congestion in this area.
