On the evening of February 20 (the 4th day of the Lunar New Year Binh Ngo 2026), the Commander of the Nha Trang Beach Rescue and Relief Team (under the Nha Trang Bay Management Board) said that during the day, functional forces promptly detected and successfully organized rescue of 10 cases swept away by large waves or RIP whirlpools.
According to the rescue force, during Tet days, the sea area of Nha Trang appears with strong rough seas, high waves and many points forming RIP currents. This is a offshore current that can pull swimmers out quickly and submerge them in a short time if not rescued in time.
Among the rescued cases were both foreign and domestic tourists. The victims were all brought ashore safely.
On the same day, rescue forces also discovered a male body, a foreigner, drifting at sea in Nha Trang and organized to bring it ashore. Currently, the local police are coordinating with relevant units to investigate, verify the identity and clarify the cause of the incident.
Faced with complicated weather developments, the Nha Trang beach rescue team has put up warning signs of danger, maintained 100% duty, and continuously reminded people and tourists not to swim in the sea when there are big waves.
However, according to records, there are still many cases of disregarding warnings, intentionally going to sea, posing a risk of unfortunate accidents.
Nha Trang Bay Management Board recommends that people and tourists absolutely do not swim in the sea when there are large waves, strong rough seas or signs of RIP.
At the same time, strictly comply with warning signs, dangerous flags and instructions from on-site rescue forces. When an injured person is detected, it is necessary to quickly notify functional forces or the nearest rescue point for timely support.
