After more than a decade of completion and operation, Hung Loi Bridge is not only a symbol of connection between the two banks of the river in Can Tho City but also a vital traffic route that plays an important role in the socio-economic development of the city. However, currently, the cau on the Hung Phu ward side is in a state of serious degradation, causing daily insecurity for people.
According to records, Hung Loi bridgehead in Tan An ward was renovated and upgraded a few months ago. The road surface is flat and smooth, creating favorable conditions for people to travel, especially during rush hour.

In complete contrast, the bridge on the Hung Phu ward side is in a state of serious damage. A series of potholes are crowded with potholes, many sections are sunk deeply, causing danger to vehicle operators, especially motorbikes. This situation becomes more serious when it rains, stagnant water causes deep holes to disappear, posing a potential risk of accidents.
Regularly going to work through this road, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh (Hung Phu ward) shared that she had to run very slowly, swerving little by little to avoid potholes. If you choose to go by another route, it is a long way to get to work.
"It's scary when it rains because we don't know where the deep hole is. I don't understand why the road in Tan An is beautiful, but in our house it is still damaged and unable to be repaired," Ms. Thanh said indignantly.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Truc Linh - Chairman of Hung Phu Ward (Can Tho City) informed that the Hung Loi Bridge residential road project in the area is stalled due to not being funded.
According to Ms. Linh, this is an old project of Cai Rang district. After decentralization and transfer to local authorities at two levels, the ward has not yet received information about capital sources from the city.
"We can only review needs, report and make recommendations to superiors. Currently, the ward cannot determine when the project will be implemented," said Ms. Linh.
However, this "temporary suspension" is only a short-term solution, it is not possible to thoroughly handle the increasingly serious deterioration.
Hung Loi Bridge is one of the key traffic projects of Can Tho City, not only serving thousands of vehicles per day but also connecting key areas of the city. Maintaining the quality of synchronous infrastructure on both sides of the bridge is a necessary factor to ensure traffic safety and promote sustainable urban development.
Local people expressed their hope that the authorities would soon intervene, survey the situation and arrange capital to comprehensively repair and upgrade the road under Hung Loi bridge on Hung Phu side.
