Da Nang - Da Nang City has completed taking DNA samples of nearly 26,000 unidentified martyrs' graves before the rainy season.

On September 15, Da Nang city officially completed excavation and taking biological samples for DNA testing for nearly 26,000 unidentified martyrs' graves at 144 cemeteries in the area.

Da Nang is the locality with the largest number of martyrs' graves requiring biopsy samples in the country, far exceeding 34 other provinces and cities and accounting for more than 50% of the total graves required for the entire Military Region 5.

Faced with the particularly large workload and weather pressure as the rainy and flood season is approaching, the city has proactively changed the construction plan. Instead of deploying sequentially as initially planned, functional forces have switched to simultaneously excavating at all qualified cemeteries.

The city focuses maximum forces and vehicles, organizes continuous work; and closely follows the grassroots to promptly remove difficulties arising in each area. With drastic, scientific and flexible approaches, the task that seemed to take many months was completed completely before the rainy season began.

Completing the biological sample collection on schedule is an important foundation for specialized agencies to accelerate the DNA testing process, identify identities and soon bring the names of heroic martyrs back to their families and homeland.

To date, Da Nang city has searched and collected 61 sets of martyrs' remains. In the coming time, functional units will continue to review, verify information and expand the search area with the determination not to let any traces be erased by time, not to let any martyrs be forgotten.
