Gas prices in Europe on September 14 exceeded the milestone of 1,000 USD/1,000 m3 in the trading session, for the first time since December 2022, according to data from the ICE exchange in London, TASS reported.
The price of October futures contracts at the TTF trading center in the Netherlands increased to about 1,004 USD/1,000 m3, equivalent to 84.07 euros per MWh.
Meanwhile, spot gas prices at major European trading centers have exceeded the threshold of 1,000 USD/1,000 m3 since last week. The next-day delivery price at TTF reached 1,005 USD, equivalent to 83.685 euros per MWh.
Gazprom noted that the heating season is approaching, causing the opportunity to supplement gas reserves in European underground depots to decline rapidly, while gas prices have reached levels previously recorded in the energy crisis at the end of 2022.
European gas prices are rising amid record low reserves ahead of winter and ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had predicted that gas prices in Europe could increase to 1,500 USD/1,000 m3.
