According to Lao Dong, the coastal area of Tan Thanh block (Hoi An Tay ward, Da Nang) has been continuously seriously eroded in recent times, this is one of the vulnerable locations that the local government and leaders of Da Nang City are particularly interested in.
Despite temporary reinforcement measures, coastal erosion in recent times has continued to extend deep inside, affecting the facilities of businesses and restaurants along the coast.
In order to respond immediately, local authorities, businesses and people have used sandbags combined with bamboo stakes to prevent landslides. However, through storms and floods, this solution has not brought long-term results.
"Every day, I see my business establishment being broken by the waves a little more. Although we had embanked with sandbags, we were helpless because the waves were so big and fierce.
The difficulties are piling up, this situation continues, so my family has to sell off assets to pay off debts" - tourism businesses in the coastal area of Tan Thanh block (Hoi An Tay ward) are worried.
At a working session with representatives of the French Development Agency (AFD) on the implementation of the Hoi An Coastal Erosion Prevention and Coastal Protection Project on the afternoon of November 24, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Tran Nam Hung - emphasized that this is a project of great significance to the city.
The project contributes to actively minimizing coastal erosion, ensuring the safety of people's lives and promoting business activities, especially in the tourism sector, creating more job opportunities, enhancing the resilience of local people to the impacts of climate change.
Also according to Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Tran Nam Hung, Da Nang City has agreed to set a target of completing this project by September 2026.
According to the People's Committee of Da Nang City, the Hoi An Coastal Anti-erosion and Sustainable Protection Project has a total investment of more than 982 billion VND (equivalent to 42 million Euros).
Of which, the loan from the French Development Agency (AFD) is about 807 billion VND; the non-refundable tro cap from the WARM fund authorized by the European Union (EU) is about 46.5 billion VND, the counterpart capital from the local budget is about 127.9 billion VND.
According to the assessment, the project implementation meets the expectations of the people, so the people and the government are very interested in and support the implementation.
However, in the last months of the year, the weather is not favorable compared to previous years. Shortage of materials, sudden increase in prices, and the source of stone hoses that are not supplied to meet demand, these factors affect the planning and progress of project implementation.
The Quang Nam Construction Investment Project Management Board has also directed construction contractors to plan to increase equipment, human resources, gather materials, and store boulders so that when the weather is favorable, construction can begin, ensuring the set progress.
