On September 11, the Military Command of Da Nang City said that the unit had just received initial information about areas believed to have nearly 300 martyrs' graves related to Hospital 78, Front 44 Quang Da during the anti-American resistance war for national salvation.
The information source provided by veteran Le Dinh Hung, residing in Cam Le ward, Da Nang city, during the search for martyrs' remains is relatives in the family.
According to Mr. Hung, during the search, he met two female liaison officers who used to work in the Bac Quang Da area. Two witnesses provided information about Hospital 78 and burial sites in the Ta La - Hon Quắm area. Both witnesses have now passed away.
According to witnesses, Hospital 78 once received and treated wounded soldiers of Front 44 Quang Da. Most of the cases of sacrifice were buried in the area near the hospital.
Notably, the Ta La - Hon Quắm area is said to have had 3 burial areas, with a total of nearly 300 graves.
Through initial inspection and comparison, some sources recorded that in November 1969, Hospital 78 was discovered in the Hon Tau mountain area, formerly in Quang Nam province.
However, the relationship between Hon Kum place name and Hon Tau mountain, the specific location of the burial areas as well as the number and list of martyrs still needs to be further verified.
The Da Nang City Military Command is looking forward to receiving more information from veterans, relatives of martyrs, officers who worked and fought at Front 44 Quang Da, Hospital 78 and comrades who know about units, operating locations, burial locations or lists of martyrs who sacrificed in the 1968-1972 period.
