On the morning of June 19, at the 3rd session of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, term 2026 - 2031, delegates considered the submission of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on policies to support people using buses.
According to the proposal, the total budget for implementing the bus ticket exemption policy in the last 6 months of 2026 is about 665 billion VND. Of which, about 454 billion VND is for 109 subsidized bus routes and 211 billion VND is for 26 non-subsidized bus routes.
The policy is implemented in two phases. From July 1 to the end of September 2026, passengers traveling on 135 bus routes will be completely free, without needing to scan cards or perform identification.
From October to the end of 2026, passengers will continue to be exempt from tickets but must verify information through bank cards, e-wallets, VNeID accounts, MultiGo applications or other electronic methods integrated with the ticket system.
