Following trails, crossing streams, transporting materials by manpower
From early morning, all tools, materials, signs, steel columns, cement, sand, stone to machinery and tools serving construction were carefully prepared for the forces to start working. Depending on the terrain, there are places where motorized vehicles can access, but there are also locations located on narrow dirt roads or hilly terrain, forcing officers and soldiers to transport materials by manpower.
There are signs that can be brought to the location to be installed, which is a very arduous journey. People have to assign people to carry signs, people to transport materials, and people to carry tools. The steep, slippery roads after rain make moving even more difficult. Some places have to follow trails, cross small streams, and weave through dense bushes to reach the location where the signs are erected.
The border terrain is inherently complex, the weather is erratic, and the harsh sun in the border makes transportation, digging holes, erecting columns, and mixing concrete heavy. On rainy days, dirt roads are muddy and slippery, water from canals and ditches rises, and in some places the road is temporarily cut off. These conditions make each sign location a challenge for officers and soldiers," shared Lieutenant Colonel Lam Thanh Hai, Deputy Commander of Giang Thanh Border Gate Border Guard Station.
To erect a sign in the right position, ensuring solidity, easy observation and suitability to the terrain, border guard officers and soldiers must conduct thorough surveys. The location of the sign must ensure that people and vehicles passing by can clearly recognize it; and at the same time, it does not affect traffic, production and people's lives. After determining the location, soldiers proceed to clear the ground, dig holes, reinforce the foundation, erect pillars, install signs and check the solidity.
Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Duc Hieu, Commander of Vinh Gia Border Guard Station, said: "The most important thing is that the signs after completion must ensure compliance with regulations, be solid and promote long-term efficiency. From the stage of transporting materials to construction and installation, everything must be implemented seriously, not done perfunctorily, roughly. Therefore, we have encouraged each other to try to make sure each sign placed down cannot move or tilt.
Meaningful propaganda signs
Border area signs are of great significance in propaganda work, raising people's awareness of territorial sovereignty and legal regulations related to border areas. For people living, working, and producing in border areas, signs are visual signs to help recognize the scope and limits of areas that need to comply with specific regulations.
For people from other places, these signs help them be more proactive in learning and complying with regulations when traveling, doing business, and producing in the area. Therefore, placing signs is not simply a technical task, but also a visual and practical legal propaganda activity. Each sign is like a "soldier" standing silently in the border, reminding everyone day and night about the awareness of law compliance, responsibility to protect national sovereignty and border security.
