At around 5am this morning (November 17), traffic lights at the Tran Phu - Hung Vuong intersection (Hanoi) in all directions were flickering red, not turning green.
The incident caused drivers, especially cars, not to dare to move, causing local congestion.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu (Hanoi), at 5:15 a.m., he had to go to the airport, and when he reached the above intersection, he had to wait for about 10 minutes because the light was flickering red.
Because he was afraid of missing work at the airport, Mr. Hieu decided to let his car move through the intersection. Mr. Hieu shared that he hoped the authorities would consider his situation.
"It was quite crowded at that time. People did not dare to go, so they got out of the car, used their phones to take photos and record videos," Mr. Hieu shared with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter.
Previously, on November 16, also from 5am to 6am, the traffic light at the above intersection was also faulty, causing traffic congestion in this area for about 30 minutes because drivers did not dare to move.
Accordingly, all traffic lights in this intersection area have turned red and not green.
People requested the authorities to quickly take measures to handle the situation to avoid affecting the travel of traffic participants.
Regarding concerns about being fined for accidentally moving when traffic lights are faulty, the authorities have repeatedly affirmed that in case the traffic lights are faulty as above, drivers will not be fined.
