Can Tho - Trees on Chau Van Liem and Nguyen An Ninh streets will be blown up and relocated to serve the median strip renovation project.

According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on February 14 on Chau Van Liem and Nguyen An Ninh streets (Tan An ward, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city), workers divided into 2 groups that were planting old trees to move them elsewhere.

Green trees are planted between the median strip from Hai Ba Trung Street to Hoa Binh Avenue, including 14 banyan trees and 8 poplar trees. Of which, banyan trees with diameters of 30 - 40cm and a height of more than 10m have been planted for many years.

Observation shows that many banyan trees had been cut down by the construction unit before, only the bare trunk remained, under the road the branches were cut into pieces to close the median strip.

According to the Ninh Kieu District Urban Management Department, the trees that have been trimmed on this road section will be relocated to serve the project to renovate the median strip and trees on Chau Van Liem and Nguyen An Ninh streets.

The management unit added that planting banyan trees in the middle of the median strip is unreasonable because they are prone to pests, and it takes time to clean up during the dry season with many fallen leaves. After renovation, the median strip of the road will be planted with 3m high trees and trees to create urban green carpets.

The project to renovate the median strip and trees on these two routes has a total cost of more than 2.6 billion VND, starting in early February 2025, expected to be completed after 90 days of construction.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Anh (Tan An ward, Ninh Kieu district) shared that the construction force has been pruning tree branches for about 3 days now. Before cutting, the shade of trees on both sides of the road has greatly limited the severe heat, especially in the summer.

"When I saw the construction force cutting down the trees, I was very sorry. At first, I thought they were just pruning a few branches, but I didn't expect them to be truncated," said Mr. Viet Anh.

Driving a technology motorbike taxi in the center of Can Tho city, Mr. Tran Nguyen Khoi (Hau Giang province) said that due to the need to develop an urban technical infrastructure network, ensure safety for people's lives and protect people's property, moving trees down is a normal necessity.

According to Mr. Khoi, when cutting down such trees, it is necessary to have measures to restore them in a reasonable place and replant beautiful trees so that Can Tho City can increase.
