Ho Chi Minh City - Not only are they exempted from fares, students traveling by bus regularly in Ho Chi Minh City also have the opportunity to receive free bus tickets to return to their hometowns for Tet.

The above information was announced by Mr. Le Hoan - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center (Department of Construction) at the preliminary conference after a month of implementing the bus ticket exemption policy, on the morning of July 30.

According to Mr. Le Hoan, in addition to toll exemption, the unit is implementing many programs to encourage people, especially students, to choose buses as their daily means of transportation.

In which, tomorrow morning (July 31), the Center will organize a lucky draw program for lucky passengers at 6 bus stations in Ho Chi Minh City with a total prize value of about 40 million VND.

Notably, the Center has coordinated with Phuong Trang Passenger Car Joint Stock Company to issue 50 free bus tickets for students to return to their hometowns for Tet. To date, 5 students from Ho Chi Minh City National University have been awarded tickets.

According to Mr. Le Hoan, these gifts are not given randomly but are selected based on bus usage data. Passengers must be regular bus passengers and perform electronic authentication through the MultiGo application. All data is automatically recorded by the system, ensuring the selection of the right subjects and transparency.

This is one of the solutions to encourage people to form the habit of using buses, and at the same time promote electronic authentication when traveling by bus" - Mr. Le Hoan said.

Along with incentive programs, the Center also promotes communication work at many universities such as Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and National University dormitories to disseminate free ticket policies and guide students to use buses.

According to the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center, after nearly a month of implementing the toll exemption policy, the volume of public passenger transport is estimated to reach about 8.4 million trips in July 2026, an increase of nearly 39% compared to the same period last year.

The MultiGo application also recorded about 376,000 downloads and more than 105,000 regular users, showing that people are gradually forming the habit of using smart public transport services.

Mr. Le Hoan said that in the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to improve the quality of bus services by promoting the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to simulate traffic flow, forecast travel time and optimize bus schedules.

The city will also complete a modern wharf system, expand the canopy connecting to Metro Line 1, add standard public toilets and strengthen socialization to develop a modern public transport network.

Notably, Ho Chi Minh City will study organizing priority lanes specifically for buses on suitable routes.
