On the afternoon of January 25, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee said that it had issued a decision to establish an investigation team for the construction incident at the Dong Thanh Reservoir Project (Nam Ban Lam Ha commune) to determine the cause, extent of impact and consider the feasibility of continuing to implement the project.

The Dong Thanh reservoir project had to be temporarily suspended from construction from July 2023 to now due to serious and prolonged landslides and subsidence.
According to the decision of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, the incident investigation team consists of 8 members, headed by Mr. Nguyen Ha Loc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment.
The investigation team has the task of organizing appraisals, determining the cause of the construction incident in accordance with legal regulations; and at the same time reporting the results to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and direction of further handling steps.

In addition to professional forces in the province, Lam Dong will hire technical experts in related fields when necessary.
The Head of the Investigation Team is assigned to assign specific tasks to each member, sign contracts to hire experts and organize the implementation of the entire content of appraisal according to the provisions of Decree 06/2021/ND-CP of the Government on quality management, construction and maintenance of construction works.
In the process of implementation, if necessary, the Investigation Team may propose to designate an independent inspection organization to assess the quality of the project, to serve the assessment of the cause of the incident and propose appropriate remedial solutions.
The Dong Thanh reservoir project has a total investment of nearly 500 billion VND from the central budget, started in 2022 to provide irrigation water for about 700ha of production land and domestic water for more than 7,500 households in the downstream area.
Landslide and subsidence incidents in the project area were recorded from July 2023 and have lasted in the years 2024, 2025 to now, affecting more than 12.7 hectares of land, damaging flood spillways and affecting houses of surrounding people.

Faced with this situation, Lam Dong province had to organize the relocation of some households, and at the same time seek technical solutions from experts to ensure safety and long-term investment efficiency.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, at the end of December 2025, the Investment and Construction Project Management Board No. 1 of Lam Dong province sent a report to the Provincial People's Committee and departments and branches on the landslide situation at Dong Thanh reservoir.
In which, it is proposed to consider the opinions of international experts from Kawasaki Company (Japan) to overcome the incident, continue to implement the project and prepare a report proposing to adjust the investment policy.
