On February 22, the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Geophysics said that on the same morning, the upstream area of Song Tranh 2 hydropower plant in Nam Tra My mountainous district had two consecutive quite strong earthquakes, in just about 1 hour.
The first earthquake occurred at 8:36 a.m. and 16 seconds, at 3.4 degrees richter, at the location at 15.196 degrees North latitude, 108.045 degrees East longitude, with a focal depth of about 8.1km.
The second match also has a focal depth of 8.1km, at the location with coordinates of 15.190 degrees North latitude, 108.049 degrees East longitude and strongly 3.0 degrees richter.

Many people in Nam Tra My and Bac Tra My districts - more than 50km away from the earthquake's eye - felt the aftershocks, causing shaking of houses and structures for up to 3 seconds.
The Center for Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning - Vietnam Institute of Geophysics assessed the natural disaster risk level of the two earthquakes as level 0 and is still monitoring.
The weather in Tra My mountainous area, although winter has passed, is still continuously raining and cold. The Song Tranh 2 hydropower reservoir is being filled and earthquakes are continuously appearing.
In the past 4 days, Nam Tra My district has had 3 earthquakes, before which was a 3.5-magnitude earthquake at the end of February 18.
