Continuous earthquakes in Kon Tum but do not threaten the safety of people's lives

THANH TUẤN |

Kon Tum Since consecutive earthquakes have occurred for many years, people in mountainous areas have gradually adapted and developed response plans.

On the afternoon of June 22, Mr. Tran Van Net - Secretary of the Dak Tang Commune Party Committee, Kon Plong District said that earthquakes have occurred continuously since the beginning of the year.

Currently, the earthquakes have not yet affected houses, caused landslides, or threatened the safety of local people.

According to Mr. Net, except for earthquakes with a intensity of 4.5 or more (rarely occurring), people are really worried. The rest were mostly earthquakes with aftershocks and minor vibrations from 4.0 and below.

Earthquakes have occurred mainly in Dak Tang commune and neighboring communes such as Mang Canh and Dak Nen (Kon Plong district) since 2021, when the large-scale Upper Kon Tum hydropower project came into water storage activities.

Recently, the government has sent officials to villages and hamlets to encourage and reassure people, and proactively applied preventive measures.

This includes requiring people, especially children, to leave unstable houses, find safe shelter or move the elderly and children to safe areas...

The Earthquake and Storm Warning Center - Institute of Earth Sciences - issued a notice of a 3.7-magnitude earthquake that occurred at the location with coordinates (14.794° North latitude, 108.309° East longitude), with a focal depth of about 8.2km, at 10:48 a.m. on June 22, 2025.

According to the coordinates, the earthquake occurred in Kon Plong district (Kon Tum). Natural disaster risk level: level 0.
