On March 23, according to PV's investigation, the Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee has just signed and issued urgent document No. 2081/UBND-NLN, requesting localities to urgently overcome the consequences of thunderstorms and tornadoes that occurred on the night of March 21 and March 22, 2026.
According to initial reports, due to the impact of extreme weather phenomena, many communes in the province such as Ban Lau, Cao Son, Si Ma Cai, Sin Cheng, Bao Nhai, Phong Hai, Den Sang, Nghia Tam, Thuong Bang La, Cat Thinh, Chan Thinh have experienced heavy rain with thunderstorms.
Natural disasters have caused damage to people's health, housing, and property, and at the same time significantly affected agricultural production and infrastructure.
Notably, in Thuong Bang La commune, thunderstorms accompanied by localized tornadoes have damaged many houses, disrupting the lives and production of local people.
Initial information, the total value of damage in Thuong Bang La commune is up to more than 5 billion VND. Many families have almost been left empty-handed after one night, all assets and houses have been destroyed by storms.
Preliminarily, the whole commune recorded about 650 houses damaged and roofs blown off. Over 150 hectares of growing and preparing for harvest crops were damaged. More than 60 civil power poles were broken and fallen.
Ms. Truong Thi Quynh (resident of Thuong Bang La commune) - shared: "The storm only lasted for a short time, but the damage caused was too terrible, I only had time to hold my phone and find a shelter, when I returned I saw the house devastated.
Faced with the above situation, the Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee requested the People's Committees of affected communes to urgently inspect, review, and fully statistics the damage; mobilize maximum on-site forces to support people, especially households whose houses have their roofs completely blown off.
Along with that, it is necessary to immediately implement policies to support housing and restore agricultural production according to regulations, ensuring timeliness and targetedness, helping people soon stabilize their lives.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Finance are assigned to closely coordinate with localities to guide the implementation of remedial work, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Regarding the affected power system, Lao Cai Power Company is requested to direct its affiliated units to urgently repair and restore the power grid, soon restore power to damaged areas, and ensure safety for people.
