On April 17, Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee said that the National Assembly Standing Committee has issued Resolution No. 237/NQ-UBTVQH dated April 14, 2026 on the establishment of 10 wards under Dong Nai province.
Accordingly, the National Assembly Standing Committee decided to establish 10 wards based on maintaining the natural area and population size of 10 communes in Dong Nai province before, including: Trang Bom ward, Long Thanh ward, Tri An ward, Nhon Trach ward, Tan Khai ward, Xuan Loc ward, Tan Phu ward, Loc Ninh ward, Dau Giay ward, Dong Phu ward.
After the establishment of wards, Dong Nai province has 95 commune-level administrative units including 33 wards and 62 communes.
The Resolution takes effect from April 30, 2026.

Previously, on April 16, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh signed a decision recognizing Dong Nai province as meeting the criteria of a type I urban area, meeting all criteria of a centrally-run city. The scope of recognition of Dong Nai province has a total natural area of 12,737.18km2, with 95 commune-level administrative units, and a population size of 4,491,408 people in 2025.

Trang Bom ward has a natural area of more than 68.7km2, with a population of more than 95,500 people.
Long Thanh ward has a natural area of more than 130km2, with a population of nearly 96,000 people.
Tri An ward has a natural area of more than 660km2, with a population of more than 51,700 people.
Nhon Trach ward has a natural area of more than 108km2, with a population of nearly 157,000 people.
Tan Khai ward has a natural area of nearly 162km2, with a population of more than 39,000 people.
Xuan Loc ward has a natural area of more than 140km2, with a population of more than 101,000 people.
Tan Phu ward has a natural area of more than 105km2, with a population of more than 77,000 people.
Loc Ninh ward has a natural area of more than 67.5km2, with a population of more than 31,400 people.
Dau Giay ward has a natural area of nearly 99km2, with a population of over 70,200 people.
Dong Phu ward has a natural area of more than 138km2, with a population of more than 39,000 people.
