Dong Thap receives 6 Red-crowned Cranes at Tram Chim National Park

Dong Thap - On the morning of April 20, the Provincial People's Committee organized a program to receive Red-crowned Cranes at Tram Chim National Park, Tam Nong District.

Participating were Central Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan; Central Party Committee member, Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee Le Quoc Phong.

On the representative side of Thailand, there were Associate Professor, Dr. Jade Donavanik, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Thai Zoo; Ms. Chongkolnee Kaewsod, Acting Director of the Thai Zoo; Mr. Thanachon Kensingh, Director of Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo.

Dong Thap province officially received the first 6 Red-crowned Cranes (about 7 months old) from the Kingdom of Thailand on April 10, 2025.

The Red-crowned Cranes were raised at Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo and transported to Vietnam by air, have completed quarantine according to regulations on wildlife quarantine at Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, and are eligible to be transported to Tram Chim National Park for further care and conservation.

The event marks an important milestone in the efforts to restore this rare bird species according to the Red-crowned Cranes Conservation and Development Project in Tram Chim National Park for the period 2022 - 2032.

Speaking at the Reception Program, Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee Le Quoc Phong said that the conservation of Red-crowned Cranes is of great significance, contributing significantly to the overall success of biodiversity conservation, especially endangered wildlife species.

Receiving the Red-crowned Cranes also conveys a strong message about the responsibility of the community for nature conservation, ecosystems and environmental protection.

"Today's activities demonstrate the sense of responsibility of many generations of leaders and people of Dong Thap province in persistently protecting and restoring the natural environment, creating favorable conditions for Red-crowned Cranes - a species endemic to Tram Chim National Park and a symbol of Dong Thap, which can regularly visit the province" - Mr. Phong said.

According to the Secretary of Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, the first crane event about Tram Chim National Park opened the direction for Dong Thap to continue implementing the goals of commitments and agreements in the project; The opportunity to implement the research program on the long -headed, scientific and thorough red -headed cranes from the care, propagation, conservation, re -release and even the formation of living and stable ecosystems for red -headed cranes.
